Australian Renovation Trends 2014

With the property market showing strong signs of recovery here in Brisbane, many homeowners are looking to value to add to their homes by renovating for resale in 2014. Like all industries, the renovation world is also expected to see the continuation of trends in 2014 and based on what’s influential in the world of home designs and remodelling wish lists, here’s what expect to see more of in the New Year.

1.     Open Plan now means Multi-Purpose

When we say open plan is finished we don’t mean that open large living areas won’t continue, but there is an increasingly shift towards dedicated functional spaces built in the one space. People want flexible spaces that can be used for several purposes and can be adapted as needed differing one big large kitchen, dining and living room. This means a dining area that can double as a workspace, or office, a living room that’s also a rumpus room for the kids and

2.     Kitchen Renovations will continue to be big

Australians are looking for more bang for their buck in the kitchen and since a good kitchen renovation offers one of the best returns on investments it’s no surprise that people are looking to continue to renovate their kitchen. We expect to continue to see grander more functional designs (space permitting) and the integration of audio visual technology in kitchen through hardwired speakers and TV screens. For people with space challenged kitchens, slide away benches are popular along with appliances that can be hidden behind cabinets and doors. See our full list of kitchen design trends here.

3.       Outdoor Kitchens and Outdoor Living.

The lines between indoor and outdoor living are becoming increasingly blurred recently with undercover outdoor kitchens featuring bench tops and sophisticated cooking facilities meaning outdoor living is a lot more than simply a table and chairs. We expect the work we do with decking, patios and other outdoor living extensions to continue to be big in 2014.

Predictions for the Australian Renovation Industry

Homeowners are continuing to realise there is much simple DIY renovation work that can be easily completed by themselves and are continuing to be inspired from reality renovation programmes. For the big jobs though the professionals will continue to be in demand, especially in capital cities where homeowners are buying older homes and restoring them to their former glory. With new trends in home design we expect this to be another busy year especially when it comes to redesigning new living spaces and upgrading kitchens.
